Matthew Galati, DVM

Associate Veterinarian

Matt grew up in Long Island and first realized he wanted to be a veterinarian after working at several local practices in high school.  He moved to Ithaca, NY after high school to attend Cornell University for his undergraduate and veterinary degrees.  He was able to work with numerous species during his time there, ranging from mice to jaguars; he also completed an honors thesis in equine research.  During that time he owned a variety of pets including dogs, a one-eyed cat, chinchillas, gerbils and rabbits.

After graduation, Matt decided to pursue an additional year of training with a rotating specialty internship at VCA Southpaws in Fairfax, which included working with all of the different specialty and emergency services.  While there, he was able to meet the HAMC team and knew they would be a great fit for his career in general practice.

Matt’s interested include preventive medicine, ophthalmology and surgery.

Outside of work, Matt enjoyed exploring the DC area’s historical and cultural landmarks to become better acquainted with his new home.  He’s also something of a movie buff and is thrilled to be living within walking distance of a local theater.

Matt’s girlfriend is an emergency veterinarian in the area working at one of the nearby specialty hospitals.  They share their home with a Cairn terrier and (eventually) will have a tabby cat joining the household (when she finally makes the move up from Florida).
